Many of the works in my acrylic collections are painted using the alla prima and impasto techniques.

 

Alla prima, or “at first attempt,” is the improv of painting. It is done at an emotional and inspirational peak. The artist has the idea of feeling, colour, and composition but doesn't know the details and will figure them out along the way. It's spontaneous and must be done quickly in order to capture the imagination and feeling before it changes. You’re tapping into your pure subconscious emotion because you don’t have time to give it thought, rationalize it, or analyze it.
